Public Relations/Organizing Campaign Committee

The Public Relations/Organizing Campaign Committee supports MTA organizing and coalition-building efforts and promotes the activities and successes of educators and public education at all levels. The committee is comprised of MTA members who meet about five times per year to consider grant applications. The committee works with the MTA Executive Committee to provide grants that help improve the image of public educators and serve as a positive force in the association’s public relations efforts.

Common PR&O funding requests include union-branded apparel (T-shirts, hats, tote bags, etc.), specific needs related to a contract or other union campaigns (rally signs, lawn signs, flyers, postcards, etc.), and food and beverage (excluding alcohol) for organizing events and membership drives.

The committee encourages locals, when possible, to anticipate their funding needs well in advance, as the turnaround time from application to committee consideration and award can take about two to three months, depending on the committee’s schedule.

We anticipate that the next MTA PR&O Committee meeting will be held in February or March. The deadline to submit an application for consideration at that meeting will be posted here once the meeting has been scheduled. In the meantime, we are currently accepting applications from local associations.
